Triple H Gets An ‘F’ From Ex-WWE Star For Stealing Promos

A ex-WWE star has come down hard on Triple H for his unruly shenanigans from back in the day.

Hunter established himself as one of the top heels in the late 90s and never looked back while continuing to cut great promos and put on quality matches in the ring.

At the time, the Stamford promotion was involved in a ratings war with WCW and ECW.

While WCW transitioned itself into a PG-13-like promotion, ECW did not shift away from its hardcore-style wrestling, nor did it tone down foul-mouthed promos from its talent.

Shane Douglas was one of the top names in ECW, who returned to ECW in 1996 after a brief stint in the then-World Wrestling Federation.

Douglas also altered his gimmick and appearance, often bringing a valet (Francine) with him to the ring and dressing in dark clothes while wearing a leather flat cap.

On more than one occasion, The Franchise has accused Triple H of stealing the same look, his gimmick, and his promos.

Shane Douglas Criticizes Triple H’s Gimmick Again

During a recent episode of his podcast, Shane Douglas replied to a user who asked if Triple H would have been as successful had he not ripped off his gimmick.

Douglas said he believed Hunter to be a talented individual, but also criticized him

Everything in wrestling pretty much is borrowed. Very little is new stuff. The one thing I’ll say about Hunter was, talented guy. I didn’t invent the Kangol hat, but where I will give criticism is when I heard promos of mine almost verbatim lifted. In the education world, we call it plagiarism…and I’d heard that a couple of times from Hunter. Slight variations. “It’s my belt, it’s by belt, it’s my f**king belt” became “It’s my belt, it’s my damn belt.”

I’ve always tried to come up with original verbiage for promos, which is why I never wrote things down or try to memorize a line or whatever.

As far as Hunter, I would give him an F for his promos and for ripping off the Franchise promos almost verbatim. I’d give him probably a C+ on character because, honestly, a lot of the Franchise was borrowed from other people.
