Triple H’s close friend, Road Dogg, left WWE in early March 2026.

According to reports, the company did not release Dogg, but he parted ways on his own terms. Dave Meltzer revealed that the WWE Hall of Famer left the company because he was unhappy with WWE’s review of his work.

“James got his annual review. The belief is that he wasn’t happy with it and left. He may say he left over something else, and only he would know exactly why he did so. But it was his decision, and it came after his annual review.”

“One person close to the situation said that it has been brewing. He was going to do a convention later this month, and it was approved, and then the approval was rescinded, and he had to cancel, but in pulling out pretty much said that wouldn’t be an issue starting in a little while.”

Road Dogg “Wasn’t Having Any Fun” At WWE

Road Dogg recently addressed his WWE departure on a recent episode of the Busted Open podcast. He stated that he left WWE because he stopped having fun while working for the company. He added that the schedule was becoming too hectic for him.

Dogg confessed that he actually stayed longer than he had anticipated because he was afraid of being unemployed. However, one day, after his wife called him, he realized it was time for him to call it quits and spend quality time with his family.

“I wasn’t having any fun. It got to be so much work, that it stopped being fun. I actually stayed longer than I wanted to just out of fear of unemployment. I didn’t do well with my money. I’m a drug addict and recovering alcoholic. I didn’t manage my money well.”

“That fear of the unknown kept me for a long time. I was about to go into a meeting, and my y wife told me on the phone, “I lived with you in a tent.’ I said, ‘I’m coming home right now.’ If you lived with me in a tent, I don’t need to pay the mortgage.” [H/T Fightful]

Road Dogg was the co-lead writer of WWE Friday Night SmackDown when he left the company. He had been working in a backstage role with WWE since 2014.
