AEW was dealt a major blow on this week’s episode of Dynamite after a current champion was forced to relinquish their title after suffering a serious injury recently.

The star in question is none other than Willow Nightingale, who relinquished her TBS Championship, which she won after defeating Mercedes Mone on the final episode of AEW Dynamite last year.

She had been on a roll as the TBS Champion, and defended her title against multiple challengers. She suffered an injury to her right shoulder during her most recent title defense at AEW Collision, against Red Velvet.

Her injury even affected the upcoming AEW Double or Nothing card as well as Willow was part of one of the quarterfinal clashes of the Owen Hart tournament. She was set to take on Alex Windsor at the event, but Tony Khan offered the latest update on her status.

TBS Title future addressed by AEW President ahead of Double or Nothing

While talking to Samantha Schipman of Powerbomb Shells during the Double or Nothing media call, he provided clarity over the future of the TBS Championship. Khan clarified that the situation regarding the belt we be clarified post this weekend’s show.

He even offered an update regarding Alex Windsor’s match at the Double or Nothing event. Earlier on Dynamite, it was announced that she would be facing a Wildcard opponent on the show.

However, Tony now clarified that the match has been moved to a later date. The match would be replaced by the Owen Hart Cup quarterfinal bout between Mina Shirakawa vs. Athena.

The show is arguably the biggest AEW event of the year and is set to feature some exciting matches. Both World Championships are set to be on the line, with Darby Allin defending his AEW World Championship against MJF in a ‘Title vs Hair’ match.

Meanwhile, the Women’s World Championship will be defended in a four-way match where Thekla will face Hikaru Shida, Jaime Heyter and Kris Statlander.
