Stephanie McMahon’s Honest Advice To Aspiring WWE Stars

Stephanie McMahon WWE

WWE’s former CEO, Stephanie McMahon, has some words of wisdom for up-and-coming wrestlers.

Stephanie McMahon played a classic heel character in the 1990s during the Attitude Era and was beloved for her spoiled, arrogant princess character, which she played to perfection on TV.

Her natural mic skills and ability to generate heat made her an acclaimed heel. She would also be on the receiving end of major insults and embarrassment from A-list stars like The Rock, Chris Jericho, and Stone Cold, but would constantly have them double down on it to get bigger reactions from the crowd.

Stephanie McMahon understood how to garner a reaction from the crowd and elicit emotions because she feels it’s the essence of the business. She recently had WWE star Bayley as a guest on her podcast “What’s Your Story.” The episode aired today, January 15th, but was shot in late 2025.

Stephanie McMahon Gives Her Honest Advice About Working Crowds

At one point during the podcast episode, Bayley, who held her Lodestone Women 2025 seminar at the end of last year (after this episode was shot), asked Stephanie if she had any advice to share with the indie wrestlers attending the camp.

Stephanie responded by explaining that it’s important to make the audience feel certain emotions because they always remember how wrestlers and storylines made them feel.

I guess what I’ll say is: the most important thing you can do is make the audience feel. You want to elicit an emotion. And you do that with your reactions. You do it with your face. You do it with your eyes. You do it by selling. You know, that is the purest form of it, right? My husband’s quoted this many times, but Maya Angelou said, ‘People will never remember what you said, they’ll never remember what you did, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel.’ And it’s true.

I would say to these girls, you need to find a way to make people feel something for you. And that’s not easy. People will give lots of different advice on how to do that. But whether it’s with your words, your face, your body, you have to make people feel.

Selling is the most important, I mean, it just is.

Stephanie McMahon is set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this April during WrestleMania 42 week in Las Vegas.
