Should Drew McIntyre Squash Sami Zayn At WWE Royal Rumble?
Drew McIntyre will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble on Saturday.
Sami Zayn emerged as the challenger after he won a 4-way match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24 by defeating Damian Priest, Trick Williams, and Randy Orton. After the match, McIntyre tried to attack Zayn, but he escaped.
The two superstars have previously fought several times, with the record standing at a staggering 0-12 in The Scottish Warrior’s favor.
The Canadian had announced his intention of becoming a world champion last year, but was instead featured in several mid-card feuds, where he held the United States Championship for 49 days.
His match at the Royal Rumble, however, transcends him from the standard underdog spot, considering he is a beloved figure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, he is expected to use Drew McIntyre’s scathing promo from the January 23 episode of SmackDown to his advantage, where the 40-year-old questioned Zayn’s parental skills by bringing up his son.
Later on the show, Zayn slapped him backstage for his vile comments.
Should Drew McIntyre Squash Sami Zayn?
Sami Zayn’s singles match record against Drew McIntyre could be deceiving for many fans, as they might expect a walk in the park for the Scot.
During a recent episode of the Notsam Wrestling podcast, a user asked Sam Roberts about whether McIntyre should squash Zayn at the Royal Rumble.
Roberts claimed that such an outcome would help no one and could have future ramifications.
I completely disgree. I don’t think it would enhance anything. That’s not the character Drew is. He’s not Oba Femi. That’s not Drew’s character. People aren’t worried about Drew because he’s gonna kill you in five minutes. People are worried about Drew because, yes, he’s powerful. He’s strong, but he knows all the wrestling moves. He knows how to get out of the wrestling moves. He knows how to win wrestling matches and he’s smart.
So, no. I mean, beating Sami Zayn in Riyadh is gonna be enough heat; 8-10 minutes is just like…it wouldn’t be giving Drew McIntyre all this heat. It would be burying Sami Zayn for absolutely no reason. [1:03:51 onwards]
