Santos Escobar finally made his much-anticipated return to wrestling.

In early October 2025, Escobar found himself without a contract after deciding to let it expire with WWE. Several reports suggested that he was headed to AEW.

Shortly afterward, it was reported that he had re-signed with the company after getting a personal meeting with Triple H, where they discussed his future with the promotion.

However, since then, he has been kept on the sidelines despite being promised important storylines.

Occasionally, the 41-year-old would tweet about patience, hinting that he was lying in wait for the perfect opportunity to strike.

And strike he did.

During the latest taping of AAA on FOX Latin America premiere on January 17, Santos Escobar made his first appearance of 2026. His segment saw him confront the AAA Latin American Champion, El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. and also attack him.

The leader of Legado Del Fantasma then cut a promo backstage, where he spoke about being away all this while and no one asked anything about him. And with the fans now wanting an answer, it was their time to wait.

What do you want? You want to know something about me now? Six months I was away. Not one question. I show up again. Nah, it doesn’t work like that. You want to know something about me? Now it’s on my time. [H/T: Fightful]

Santos Escobar’s Last Match Was In AAA

Santos Escobar last competed inside a wrestling ring in June 2025.

He, along with his Legado Del Fantasma stablemates Angel and Berto, took on the trio of El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Pagano, and Psycho Clown at AAA x WWE Worlds Collide in Los Angeles.

The match played out well in entertaining the attendees, with the heels getting the win after Santos hit Wagner Jr. with a Phantom Driver for the pinfall win.

Since then, WWE has collaborated with AAA on several supershows.

The Stamford promotion’s plan of introducing Santos Escobar as a top heel in AAA has taken shape and it will be interesting to see where it takes him.
