Sami Zayn has shared some incredible photos from WWE’s trip to Saudi Arabia while calling it an experience that he will cherish forever.

This Saturday, May 27th at WWE Night of Champions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Sami Zayn and his best friend Kevin Owens will defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles (Raw & Smackdown) against tough challengers in Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa, who are trying to bring those titles back to The Bloodline.

For Zayn, it will be his first time working a WWE show in Saudi Arabia event since the company started doing pay-per-views there in 2018. Zayn did compete at WWE events in Saudi Arabia prior to that.

Sami Zayn is a second-generation Syrian that grew up near Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The relations between Syria and Saudi Arabia in recent years have been non-existent. The countries suspended diplomatic ties with each other in late 2011 following Saudi’s backing of non-government forces in the Syrian Civil War.

Things changed on May 9th, 2023 when both countries resumed these ties with one another just a few days after Syria was also re-admitted to the Arab League. The Saudi Press Agency, which is state run, issued a statement noting the reasons for re-establishing their diplomatic mission in Syria:

“Based on the deep bonds and common affiliation of the peoples of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and in confirmation of both communities’ wills, and based on the Syrian Arab Republic believe in the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Arab countries to serve joint Arab action, The Syrian Arab Republic decided to resume the work of its diplomatic mission in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Due to that, Zayn made the trip to Jeddah with WWE. Kevin Owens also refused to work the Saudi Arabia shows in the past due to his best friend Sami Zayn not being allowed to go, so Owens is there is as well for their title defense.

On Instagram, Sami Zayn posted two photos of himself completing an Umrah. That’s a pilgrimage to the Islamic holy city of Mecca that takes place outside of the Hajj season. You can see Zayn’s message and two photos below.

“Being a pro wrestler and being with WWE has taken me to places I never dreamed I’d get to see and do things I never thought I’d get to do. It has provided me a life filled with incredible experiences that I will cherish forever. This one is at the top of the list. الحمدلله”
