Roman Reigns Addresses Why WWE Caters To Different Types Of Fans

Roman Reigns made it clear why WWE cares so much about having a show for hardcore fans, but also for the newer fans as well.

At the 2024 edition of WWE SummerSlam, Roman Reigns made an unannounced return during the main event between WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Roman’s cousin Solo Sikoa. As soon as Reigns appeared in front of the crowd, the fans in Cleveland exploded in cheers for one of the loudest ovations in WWE history.

It was a different kind of reaction for Reigns, who has been on the WWE main roster for 12 years and spent most of that time as a babyface, but he had never been cheered like that before. In the four years before that, Reigns was a top heel in WWE who was known as the “Tribal Chief” and the man who held the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship for an incredible 1,316 days.

Considering his experience level and his nearly decade-long experience as a main event performer, Reigns knows how to put on an entertaining performance for WWE fans.

While speaking at Bloomberg’s New York Power Players with WWE Hall of Famer “Wise Man” Paul Heyman, Reigns spoke about why WWE has to run shows that are appealing to hardcore wrestling fans who have watched for a long time and also newer fans who will hopefully still be around.

“Well we have to do exactly that, we have to serve both audiences, the casual fan and then the fan that we believe is completely tuned in with what we’re doing every single week. As a talent, this is where it can get a little bit tricky. Paul would tell you, I don’t like to recap, I don’t like to talk about last week’s program because I’m focused on what we’re pushing forward this week. But sometimes, a lot of times, you have to do that.”

“You have to remind your audience of, just like before you watch a Game of Thrones, they give you a bit of a recap before you go into this new episode.”

“So there are times where we will give you that package and give you some of that B roll, but there’s other times where we can creatively fit it into our real-time script, today’s script about things that happened last week. So it’s a constant battle creatively to continue to keep everybody informed, and then also, you know, be cognizant enough to know that there might be a new viewer coming.”

“Hopefully, there’s a new viewer coming in this week, and we need to speed them up and then also entice them to keep them on the ride.”

Roman Reigns Agrees With John Cena For WWE’s GOAT

During the same Bloomberg conference, Roman Reigns was asked about John Cena calling him the “greatest of all time” superstar in WWE history. Reigns gave a great answer explaining why Cena knows what he is talking about while also summarizing it by saying: “I guess I’m just going to agree with him.”

As for when WWE fans might see Reigns again, It is expected that Cody Rhodes will face Solo Sikoa in a WWE Title match on the September 13th edition of Smackdown. That’s the night when the blue brand returns to USA Network, so that could be when Reigns seeks revenge on Solo since The Bloodline brutally attacked Reigns several weeks ago.
