Roman Reigns Not Facing Rumoured Opponent At WWE Crown Jewel

Roman Reigns’ next challenger is not who some WWE fans would be expecting.

With Paul Heyman frequently referring to John Cena as “the second greatest wrestler of all-time” behind Reigns and Heyman choosing to also be at the October 10th edition of NXT following Cena’s announcement, the creative direction looks to be a third match between The Tribal Chief and the Hollywood star, scheduled to take place at Crown Jewel. However, this has been debunked in a new report.

As seen in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was confirmed by company sources that a title match between Reigns and Cena is “not the match planned for the show.”

Reigns and Cena have previously faced each other one-on-one at twice. The first-ever encounter took place at No Mercy 2017, which was won by Reigns. Following a surprise return in 2021, a rematch was set for SummerSlam that year which was also won by The Tribal Chief.

Reigns next televised title defence looks set for the upcoming Saudi Arabia show on November 4th, as the Undisputed Champion has been advertised for the October 27th show, which will likely be a double taping to allow the roster ample time to travel to the Kingdom. It is here that the next challenger will be revealed to the fans.

Roman Reigns Scheduled For Rare Title Defence

Having beaten all of the major stars in the company and passed over 1,000 days as champion, Reigns’ championship defences are even more sporadic than before. However, prior to his return on SmackDown, Reigns is advertised to put the title on the line at a WWE house show.
