Roman Reigns Championship Celebration Could Include New Title

Roman Reigns may be getting a new championship to carry around, according to a report.

On tonight’s June 2nd episode of Smackdown from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, WWE will acknowledge the “Tribal Chief” with a championship celebration. That’s because Roman Reigns recently passed 1,000 days as the WWE Universal Champion, a championship that he won on August 30, 2020, at a show called Payback.

At WrestleMania 38 in 2022, Roman Reigns beat Brock Lesnar to become the WWE Champion, which means he has held that title for over 400 days. While holding both championships, Reigns has been called the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion since then.

It has been reported by Fightful Select that during Roman’s celebration, WWE may be introducing a “New WWE Universal Championship.” This was revealed via memos regarding the show. Fightful also reports that there is going to be a podium that will be used to reveal the new look WWE Universal Championship.

Fightful also added that “all creative is subject to change, and this is based on internal discussions and memos within the company.”

The presentation of this new look WWE Universal Championship may resemble what it was like when The Rock was presented with a new look WWE Championship in 2013.

What this means for title lineage is unknown, but since the WWE Championship has been around for more than 60 years and the Universal Title has only been present for about seven years, it makes sense to eliminate the Universal Title and have Reigns carry around one championship instead of two.

Reigns commented on reaching the 1,000-day milestone with these comments on Twitter.

“Tough times made me the Tribal Chief I am today. The Greatest of All Time. 1000 days as the undisputed best in the world! #AcknowledgeMe#SmackDown

The “tough times” that Reigns is referencing are issues with his cousins The Usos. That is because at Night of Champions six days ago, Roman’s cousin Jimmy Uso hit the Tribal Chief with two superkicks while The Usos’ brother Solo Sikoa was pinned in a tag team against Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens. It was not a good night for The Tribal Chief.

Roman Reigns is hoping that Smackdown goes a lot better and perhaps we’ll see a new championship belt for Reigns as well.
