Road Dogg Talks Triple H’s Infamous AEW Insult

Road Dogg Billy Gunn Shawn Michaels X-Pac Billy Gunn DX Hall of Fame

Road Dogg has given his thoughts on Triple’s notorious remarks about AEW as D-Generation X was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

In 2019, WWE’s seminal group of the Attitude Era was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, X-Pac, and Chyna were all inducted as D-Generation X took its rightful place alongside the greats of the wrestling business.

The induction came just four months after the announcement that AEW would be formed. Billy Gunn was one of the fledgling company’s first recruits, signing on as a coach before the WWE Hall of Fame took place.

During the group’s speech, Triple H launched into an impersonation of Vince McMahon as he threatened to fire anybody he wanted. Gunn playfully reminded The Game that McMahon couldn’t fire him which led to an AEW chant breaking out. Triple H thought he had the last laugh as he told Gunn that McMahon would “buy that pissant company just to fire you again.”

Road Dogg has now reflected on the comment on his Oh… You Didn’t know podcast, saying that he felt bad for his old tag team partner:

“Look, it didn’t, so I am always closer with Billy than I have been with anybody else, Billy and X-Pac. But, so I felt bad for Billy, look at the time, I get it, I get why [Triple H] said it. But it didn’t need to be said and I understand why it was said and it was all in fun, but it did make me feel bad for Billy for a bit. I mean he works there, you know what I mean, he’s just trying to get along too. It’s not a hill I’m gonna die on, but I felt bad for Billy right then.”
