WWE legend John Cena is battling a chronic health condition.

The Leader of the Cenation retired from in-ring competition last December after losing his final match to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Nearly four months later, he returned to host WrestleMania 42.

The 17-time world champion also appeared at Backlash earlier this month to drop a blockbuster announcement, revealing that WWE is set to launch the John Cena Classic Tournament.

Meanwhile, Cena recently made a shocking personal revelation during an interview with People. The Never Seen 17 disclosed that he started having issues with his vision following his in-ring retirement. While he initially assumed it was due to age, spending too much time on his screen, or bright lights. He later discovered it was something more serious.

I had a lot of redness and itchiness, and every once in a while, waking up with eye crusties and stuff,” he shares. “At the same time, given my age — I’m 49 now — my vision was going a little bit, so I just figured it was par for the course. But because my vision was going, I needed to see if I needed glasses or prescriptions.

John Cena Diagnosed With Demodex Blepharitis

After pushing off his eye appointment for a while, John Cena finally went to check what was going on with his vision. He was surprised to be diagnosed with Demodex blepharitis, a chronic condition he did not know existed.

Cleveland Clinic explains Demodex Blepharitis as a “type of eyelid inflammation that’s due to an overgrowth of tiny parasites called Demodex mites. These mites live naturally on human skin, including on your face and eyelids, and normally don’t cause problems. But if they grow too numerous, they can cause itchy eyes, swollen eyelids and other symptoms that can disrupt daily life and threaten eye health. Treatment can get rid of the excess mites, relieve symptoms and prevent complications.”

The Leader of the Cenation was prescribed eye drops that helped him get rid of most symptoms, as he revealed in his interview.

immediately, all that stuff went away. Now, I still need my readers, but I don’t have that redness, that itchiness and certainly not waking up with the crusties. [H/T: People]

Cena described it as a learning experience, stating that he was glad he finally saw a professional eye doctor.
