Origin Of Gunther’s Beef With Cody Rhodes Revealed Before WWE Clash In Italy

Gunther is set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash in Italy.

The Ring General crossed paths with The American Nightmare a few times over the past few years, including a Crown Jewel Championship match in Saudi Arabia in 2024. It ended with Rhodes’ victory, as the Undisputed WWE Champion became one of only four superstars to beat the former World Heavyweight Champion on the main roster.

A few weeks ago, Gunther moved to SmackDown and immediately targeted Rhodes. The two superstars are now set to square off in an Undisputed WWE Championship match at Clash in Italy.

Gunther Wants Revenge On Cody Rhodes At WWE Clash In Italy

Ahead of his Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes tonight at Clash in Italy, Gunther sat down for an interview with Wade Barrett.

The Ring General revealed why he had beef with The American Nightmare, recalling the latter eliminating him twice from the Royal Rumble and beating him at Crown Jewel. The former World Heavyweight Champion admitted that he wants to get his revenge.

Our business is very different, and I don’t like how Cody does it. I mean, I was in the Rumble, my first one, for at least an hour and he walks out very conveniently at number 30. It was Cody who took it away. The year after, he took it way. In Saudi, he got one up over me. He’s the only one in this company that can claim that.

There’s a score that needs to be settled. And when I had the chance, when the opportunity was there, I wanted to go after Cody, and I wanna shake his throne because he seemed very secure in that spot. So, I wanna take that away from him, and I’m gonna have my fun with it. [1:15 onwards]
