NXT Championship Match Announced for WWE NXT Takeover Phoenix on January 26, 2019

The NXT Championship match has been announced for WWE’s next NXT Takeover event on January 26, 2019 at the Talking Stick Resort Arena (yes, that’s really the name) in Phoenix, Arizona. The event takes place one night before January’s Royal Rumble.

In the NXT Championship match, it will see current champion Tommaso Ciampa defend his title against the former champion Aleister Black. Ciampa won the championship from Black on the July 25 edition of NXT when Johnny Gargano accidentally hit Black in the head with the NXT Title. Ciampa capitalized on the situation and has been the NXT Champion for the past five months. Black never received his title rematch at NXT Takeover Brooklyn back in August because Black hurt his groin and needed surgery. After missing two months, Black returned.

At the last NXT Takeover (WarGames in Los Angeles), Black got his revenge on Gargano by beating him in a great match and now Black is set to get that title rematch he was owed months ago.

As for an early prediction, I expect Ciampa to retain the title and for Black to debut on the main roster either at the Royal Rumble or TV the following week. Smackdown makes a lot of sense since Black got married to Zelina Vega recently.

On Twitter, Ciampa welcomed Black to the main event.
