Nikki Bella was really excited to wrestle in her first WrestleMania since her WWE return, but unfortunately, she had to miss the event due to a severe injury.

Just two weeks before the Showcase of the Immortals, The Fearless One suffered an ankle injury during a tag team match alongside her twin sister Brie Bella, against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. She fractured, tore, and sprained her ankle, requiring immediate surgery.

Given her injury and then the surgery, she was removed from the match card at WrestleMania 42. She was scheduled to team up with Brie Bella for a Fatal Four-Way match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Just minutes before the match took place, Nikki Bella showed up in a walking boot and announced that she wouldn’t be able to compete in her scheduled match. However, she brought someone as a replacement.

That certain someone turned out to be returning star Paige, who teamed up with Brie to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Nikki Bella’s Return Still Up In The Air

Nikki Bella is still in rehab and recently had an interview with USA Today, where she gave an update on her injury and return. She stated that she was targeting a return in June, but it is uncertain if that’ll happen. She added that she wants to recover fully before stepping back into the ring, as she doesn’t want to risk re-injury.

“Injuries are so funny. I always try to ask that. (They’re like) ‘not until I see what your ankle looks like in June,’ and I’m like, ‘But if you were to just guess,’ and they’re like, ‘Don’t know, not until June.’”

“I’m hoping, for me in my head, end of June would be incredible, but I also don’t want to go back too early. Because you know the big part about when people get reinjured is because their strength isn’t matching, so I need to make sure the calves, the quads, glutes, I need to make sure they’re all built up.”
