MJF Claims He’s Held To A Higher Standard Than Other Stars

MJF AEW Dynamite Diamond

MJF had a fighting response to his critics.

As a result of teaming with Adam Cole back in the summer, MJF morphed into a smiling babyface for the first time in AEW. While he’d been cheered heavily previously, he’d always retained a snarky edge that’s now been somewhat blunted.

In recent months he’s also been targeted by The Devil and his Henchmen, losing the ROH World Tag Team Titles on December 27th. These changes and storylines have given the AEW World Champion a sympathetic feeling to his character, and it’s not been universally embraced by fans.

Speaking to Liam Crowley for ComicBook.com, MJF hit back at the criticism but admitted he understands it.

“I think one big thing I want to say is for everybody who fell in love with me, I understand the criticisms. I understand the critiques. I think the reason that people criticize me more now than ever is because they hold me to a higher standard. Because they know what I’m capable of. On December 30th, I’m going to remind people exactly what the f*ck I’m capable of and I’m going to do it with a smile on my face.”

MJF Tops AEW Worlds End Card

On December 30th, AEW will hold its first-ever December pay-per-view in Long Island, New York. In the main event, MJF will defend the AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe. On the December 27th episode of Dynamite, Joe attacked the champion with a steel chair after he’d been taunted by The Devil.
