Mercedes Mone Wants The Right Opponent For AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Mercedes Mone entrance on AEW Dynamite

Mercedes Mone has challenged Tony Khan and Hiroshi Tanahashi to find her an opponent for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

At Double or Nothing, Mercedes Mone defeated Willow Nightingale to capture the TBS Championship in her debut match for AEW. The victory marked the culmination of a year-long journey back from a broken ankle that nearly ended The CEO’s career.

Mone’s last match against Nightingale when the pair fought in the final of a tournament to crown the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion. Now, Mone has her sights set on New Japan once again as her former and current employers head towards their annual collaboration at Forbidden Door.

Speaking at the post-Double or Nothing press conference, the former IWGP Women’s Champion told AEW President Tony Khan to work with his counterpart in NJPW, Hiroshi Tanahashi, to find her the “best” opponent they could from Japan.

“June 30, we have Forbidden Door just right around the corner, Tony, so I don’t know. Tanahashi-san, do you have any good opponents for me in New Japan and STARDOM? You think about that, right? You call Tony and Tony will call me and Mone/Khan, we’ll just collaborate and choose the best opponent for June 30 at Forbidden Door.”

Mone is no stranger to the STARDOM roster, having fought the likes of AZM and Hazuki. The star might also have revenge on her mind as she previously lost the IWGP Women’s Title to the Icon of the promotion, Mayu Iwatani.

Why Did Mercedes Mone Leave WWE?

Ahead of her AEW debut, Mercedes Mone addressed her reasons for leaving WWE back in 2022. The CEO admitted that she wanted a change from the company where she spent a decade of her career, saying that it was the only way she could grow.
