A Hall of Famer doesn’t agree with WWE’s decision to give Sami Zayn just 9 days with the WWE Championship.

When Sami Zayn finally became the Undisputed WWE Champion at Night of Champions, announcer Michael Cole shouted that it was a “miracle” because it was Zayn’s 10th attempt at winning the coveted title, and many people thought it would never happen.

On the following episode of SmackDown, Zayn found out he would have to defend the WWE Championship on the July 6th episode of Raw in Chicago, even though he’s a SmackDown wrestler.

It was supposed to be the former champion Cody Rhodes against Zayn on Raw in Chicago, but Gunther attacked Rhodes backstage, taking him out of the match.

Instead of facing Cody, Zayn had to defend the WWE Title against a returning CM Punk, who had been off television for three months and had come home to Chicago to beat Zayn for the WWE Championship. Punk is now an 8-time WWE World Champion, while Zayn only held the WWE Title for 9 days.

After the loss, Sami Zayn was seen ranting in a WWE video about the title loss.

“How is it that after 24 years of crawling and inching for every little inch to get the WWE Championship, after I finally get it, NINE DAYS AFTER I GET IT! That piece of sh*t can walk back in here, after not being here for months, for months, and walks right in and gets it? That motherf*cker. He has no business, no business!”

While Zayn is obviously in character here, there are also a lot of WWE viewers who feel the same way about his short title reign.

Mark Henry Thinks Sami Zayn Deserved A Longer WWE Title Reign

WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles recently expressed his disappointment with Sami Zayn’s short WWE Title reign, and he’s not the only one.

The former WWE World Champion and Hall of Famer, Mark Henry, spoke to Alex Withers of Casino.org, and stated that he thought it was the wrong decision by WWE to take the championship off Sami Zayn.

“I thought that it was the wrong decision. The trigger was pulled too soon. I would have liked for him to call for his rematch clause and dress up like Santa Claus and just go to the ring and be a character. Be a little different the way that he has been over the last year or so. But yeah, I think they took it from him too soon, and I wish that they could go backwards and get him back as champion.

To see both of those guys go to war and it end the way that it did didn’t disappoint me, but I just wondered why so soon. I don’t want to feel that way with Roman and Seth, and that worries me. I want it to be longer. I want them to stretch it out and have good stories told before you get to WrestleMania. But their story needs at least one more PLE.”

As Henry continued, he credited CM Punk for being a star.

“I think they maybe sacrificed Zayn to get Punk at SummerSlam but everything is a sacrifice in wrestling. It’s not uncommon for two wrestlers not to get along. They’re always arguing about others getting more opportunities than them, and I think more of that is gonna come straight after SummerSlam.

I think they see Punk as a star. He’s an unbelievable talent with a lot of upsides still. You look at the match that he had with Sami Zayn, you look at the match he had with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, the man has no weakness. We always need to see that version of CM Punk. I want to see him more in WWE, not less.”

Despite the loss, Henry believes Sami Zayn is more valuable because at least he held the WWE Championship for 9 days.

“I don’t know if you have to bring somebody back that’s already established, but they’ve still got to show up and produce. The pressure is always on, and I think that’s what has happened. The cream just rose to the top. But that doesn’t mean Sami is any less valuable. It’s just a matter of timing.

He’s now established himself. He’s had his breakout moment, and now it’s someone else’s turn to step up and make that leap. That’s just how wrestling works.”

Find out what happens next on the July 10th edition of WWE SmackDown with CM Punk set to celebrate his WWE Title win, while Sami Zayn will likely be there to vent some more.
