Major AEW Star Wanted Title On Swerve Strickland Long Before Dynasty

Swerve Strickland AEW

Swerve Strickland is the AEW World Champion following Dynasty but for one top AEW star that win would have come sooner.

At Dynasty, AEW truly became Swerve’s House. The match was a back-and-forth affair in St. Louis with both men kicking out of each other’s signature moves. However, a Swerve Stomp proved the difference as Swerve Strickland became only the eighth man to become AEW World Champion. Strickland is also the first African-American man to hold AEW’s biggest prize in the company’s 5-year existence.

Speaking at a celebration dinner for Strickland, the first AEW World Champion Chris Jericho paid tribute to the star and thinks he should have been a world champion before now:

The most important thing about wrestling is character, charisma, persona and the X-factor, the cool factor. He had it from the start, and he’s a great worker and on top of that he is a big thinker. He thinks outside of wrestling. He just performed at Rolling Loud which is f*cking crazy that you go on that bill. It reminds me of early Fozzy.

It’s because he is a hustler, an entertainer and he’s great at what he does. I knew about 6 months ago this was our guy. I would have done it 2 months earlier, armchair booking, but it worked out great.

Chris Jericho Wins Big On Same Night As Swerve Strickland

Swerve Strickland’s big win came on the same night that Chris Jericho won gold again in AEW. Jericho defeated HOOK at Dynasty to win the FTW Championship. Jericho was greeted with chants of “Please retire” and “Go home Jericho” as the fans gave their thoughts on the star. Chris Jericho has offered his own interesting response to his reaction in St. Louis.
