Latest Update On Plans For WWE Title Match At WrestleMania 42
The WrestleMania 42 plan for the WWE Title now has a new update.
Drew McIntyre is the WWE Undisputed Champion, and his opponent will be the winner of the 6-man Elimination Chamber match taking place on Feb 28.
Randy Orton, Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, LA Knight, Cody Rhodes, and Jey Uso will go at it in the Chamber, with the winner getting a shot at McIntyre’s WWE Title at The Showcase of the Immortals.
The company already has the World Heavyweight Championship match locked in, featuring Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns going up against the Champion CM Punk.
As McIntyre waits to see who his opponent is going to be, a report has emerged that internal discussion points towards Cody Rhodes.
Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer Says Cody Rhodes Will Be Involved In The WWE Championship Match
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reports that Cody Rhodes is a lock for the WWE title internally. Jacob Fatu could be the other wrestler to be thrown into the mix.
The other talk regards McIntyre’s WWE title match. It’s a virtual lock that Rhodes would be involved in that. Whether it’s a singles match or a three-way with Jacob Fatu, or even more that would involve Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, or others is unclear, and may not even be finalized.
What we have been told is that a match involving more than three people is not being talked about right now. So it is still Rhodes, and if someone is added, at this point, it would only be Fatu.
My impression is that this has already been decided, even though plans for the rest of the show are being rewritten.
Plans for the rest of the show are still fluid as the company has not been able to finalize matches for this year’s Mania card due to injuries and last-minute-changes backstage. In the latest notable mishap, Bronson Reed of The Vision, who was supposed to advance to the Elimination Chamber match, suffered a bicep tear during the match and needed surgery leading WWE to have Jey Uso pick up the victory instead.
