Drew McIntyre remains away from WWE, and a new report suggests a return isn’t happening soon.

The last time former WWE World Champion Drew McIntyre was seen on WWE television was at WrestleMania 42, when he lost an Unsanctioned Match to Jacob Fatu.

Since then, there have been reports about how McIntyre was filming a movie. It was also recently reported by Wrestlevotes that McIntyre and Randy Orton are set to return to WWE TV in time to set them up for big roles at SummerSlam on August 1 & 2.

In an update, PWInsider’s Mike Johnson shuts down those reports about a McIntyre comeback, and writes that “those rumors were completely inaccurate as there has been nothing on the table for McIntyre creatively, and for good reason.”

Johnson noted that since McIntyre finished filming the “Highlander” movie, McIntyre has been circling several other Hollywood projects.

It was reported by Deadline that McIntyre was announced for a new film called “The Last Druid” starring Russell Crowe. It’s a historical action drama that is shooting in Spain already and likely into the summer, which is likely why McIntyre isn’t part of WWE plans.

The plot of the film is below.

“An Emperor discovers a secluded Druid stronghold, forcing a peaceful Celtic elder to take up arms and protect his family and people from annihilation.”

McIntyre’s role is currently unknown, while Crowe plays the Celtic elder.

Drew McIntyre Felt Better Than Ever Going Into WrestleMania

In a wide-ranging interview conducted before WrestleMania 42, Drew McIntyre spoke openly about how he felt like he was in the best shape of his career after spending more than 20 years in the pro wrestling business. A trainer helped a lot.

“I decided to get a trainer who actively came to my garage and worked with me and helped me out with training and diet and the big thing, mobility, which I’ve never done, proper mobility work. I worked with Rob McIntyre for years. He’s phenomenal, but he was sending my workouts, especially when I moved to Nashville five years ago, and it was a lot more difficult not working one-on-one with him.

Having this new trainer, Jeff, coming to the garage and pushing me. He’s five foot tall, five foot wide. He’s a very angry little man, and he was pushing me through my paces. But the big difference was the mobility work. I couldn’t throw a superkick, not that I wanted to, because everybody and their mother throws a superkick these days, but I’d love to be able to and have the choice to do it, but my hips were so tight, it just wasn’t physically possible.

Things were locking up. I was aware, oh, my goodness, maybe you’re closer to the end than the beginning, not just because of your age, but because of how my body felt and going through all this mobility work. The new diet, which reduced inflammation dramatically, I not only saw a difference in how I looked on screen, but how I felt overall. I was throwing head kicks, I could literally kick Omos in the face right now, and I feel better now than I did at legitimately 30 years old.”

Drew McIntyre recently turned 41 and is a 4-time WWE World Champion, who beat Cody Rhodes for the WWE Title earlier this year.
