Johnny Gargano has provided an update on the injury he’s dealing with and how much time he’ll be out of the ring.

It was in August 2022 when Johnny Gargano returned to WWE on the main roster. Prior to that, his last appearance was in NXT in December 2021 when his contract expired after being one of the greatest NXT superstars ever for the previous six years.

Since joining the Raw roster, Gargano has faced off against some of the brand’s best like Austin Theory, Baron Corbin and even Omos, who destroyed Gargano when they wrestled. Gargano also has gotten the chance to team with Kevin Owens as well.

During WWE’s Holiday Tour live events in the last week of 2022, Gargano competed on a show in Toronto on December 30th. Gargano was in a tag team match with Dexter Lumis against the team of The Miz and Baron Corbin. While Lumis and Gargano won the match, Johnny also left the match with a shoulder injury.

On January 9th, Gargano tweeted about his shoulder injury.

“I injured my shoulder at a live event in Toronto (ironic?), and the medical team is going to protect me from myself for a bit.. but you better believe I’m going to do EVERYTHING I can to get back in that ring so I can be that guy you all know I can be. Just let me in that Rumble!”

Johnny Gargano was a guest on the January 11th edition of WWE’s The Bump on YouTube where he spoke about how he was given a 5-6 week timeline to return from injury but he hopes to beat it.

“I tweeted out that I injured my shoulder at a live event in Toronto, which is ironic because I came back in Toronto. That’s where I injured my shoulder. I got rammed into the steel steps, and I sprained my AC joint. Doctors say originally about five-to-six weeks. I’m going to do everything in my power to cut that time down, and that’s the most transparent I can be there.”

“We’re gonna see what can happen, and I’m gonna work very, very hard to come back as soon as possible. [There’s] a lot of things I still want to accomplish, a lot of things I still want to do. I am far from happy with how things have gone for me recently, and I want to right those wrongs and show everyone out there; that believe in me, what Johnny Wrestling is truly capable of doing.”

As he continued, Johnny Gargano talked about facing some of the bigger wrestlers on Raw and how he’s excited to get back into the ring.

“Baron Corbin, big dude. Otis, big dude. Omos, the biggest dude. But I’ve also had matches against Chad Gable, matches against Austin Theory, so I’ve had kind of a cornucopia of different sizes and shapes and whatnot. But I am very excited to be able to get back in that ring and really show everyone what I’m capable of. I know there’s a lot of people out there that still believe in Johnny Wrestling, still believe in what I’m capable of, and I’m gonna prove all of them right, I promise you that.

“It’s Rumble season, and I know a guy like me, I pride myself on my tenacity [and] my heart. If I can get cleared for that Rumble, I’ll be super pumped. I don’t know. My doctor said five or six weeks, so I don’t know what that means. But I am very lucky that we do have a medical team that’s gonna protect me from myself. If it was up to me, I’d be out there right now, and I’d be in a whole bunch of pain [laughs]. I think that things have gone pretty well, but I’m excited to take things to the next level.”

The Royal Rumble takes place on January 28th in San Antonio and it’s unknown if Johnn Gargano will be part of it. He sounds determined to make it back in time, so we’ll have to see if he’s healthy enough to compete at the show.
