John Cena Warned Ex-WWE Divas: “Never Do That Again”
John Cena once urged former WWE female stars to never do a thing again. The ex-divas in discussion are AJ Lee and Kaitlyn.
AJ Lee and Kaitlyn were two of the top female stars during the WWE’s PG era. AJ is still considered one of the legendary female stars of all time. On the other hand, Kaitlyn was also quite beloved during her time and also held the Divas Championship once during her tenure.
Back in 2013, Kaitlyn and AJ Lee feuded with each other as well. At Payback 2013, the two squared off with each other with the Divas Championship on the line. At the end of an amazing match, AJ managed to defeat Kaitlyn and capture the title. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn recalled an interesting story about that match, which involves John Cena.
John Cena had warned the former WWE divas not to repeat a mistake
Speaking on Rewind, Recap, Relive, Kaitlyn recalled how she and AJ Lee went over their given time during their match at Payback 2013 and the referee was telling them to end it quickly:
What’s funny about that match is we went over on our time and you never do that on a pay-per-view. They told us to go home. We probably still had two minutes left, maybe two and a half minutes left of like to really tell the story, and so the ref tells us like, ‘you need to take it home, take it home, take it home.”
Kaitlyn further recalled how the WWE Divas were used to get their time cut at that time, but she and Lee kept going because of the amazing crowd:
We were used to getting our time cut because people’s matches ran over, you know? So there’s usually always the divas that they cut. The ref tells us and AJ’s like, ‘no,’ and so we were both down selling and she was like, ‘let’s keep going.’ I was like, ‘okay.’ The crowd was insane.”
Kaitlyn recalled how she went backstage, and John Cena was there, as his match on the show was still coming up. Cena warned Kaitlyn and AJ Lee to never cut into his match again before applauding their match:
I was crying, and when we got back into Gorilla, Cena was back there, and because Cena’s match was still up. So we cut into Cena’s match, and he was like, ‘never do that again.’ But he was like, ‘great match.’” [H/T Fightful]
At Payback 2013, John Cena defeated Ryback in a three-stages-of-hell match to successfully retain his WWE Championship.
