John Cena Called Out By Ex-WWE Star: “You Shouldn’t Have Buried Us”

John Cena has retired from in-ring wrestling, but he is still associated with WWE under an ambassador’s contract.

The Champ worked his last match in December 2025 against Gunther. The Ring General made him tap out to finish Cena’s legendary in-ring career.

Throughout his WWE career, Never Seen 17 has seen his fair share of ups and downs. While he has maintained a professional relationship with his peers, there are moments in his career that have caused resentment in others.

John Cena is called out by a former faction member

Back at SummerSlam 2010, John Cena’s team defeated The Nexus. This truly affected the faction’s growth, and possibly what marked the end of what could have been something quite big.

During an interview with R3 Jonah, former Nexus member Michael Tarver called out John Cena over the defeat. He claimed that Never Seen 17 should not have buried the faction at SummerSlam.

One person in particular, he has gone on record (Cena). You shouldn’t have buried us at SummerSlam. You shouldn’t. I don’t have heat for it. I’m grateful that I got a chance to even be a part of that.

John Cena has also acknowledged this emotion previously and has revealed that his team should not have defeated The Nexus at SummerSlam.
