Jim Ross Calls ROH Match “A Work Of Art”

Jim Ross

Legendary wrestling commentator Jim Ross has high praise for a match from this past Saturday.

On December 10th, 2022, Ring of Honor held its 21st edition of Final Battle. The show featured twelve matches (including pre-show matches) and featured a mix of pure ROH wrestlers and crosspromotional talent between ROH and AEW. But the one match most wrestling fans, including Jim Ross, are taking about is the third tag match between FTR and the Briscoes.

In this third match, the Briscoes finally managed to do what they couldn’t twice before and win the ROH Tag Team Championships. They beat the defending champs in a brutal 22-minute Double Dog Collar match to finally beat Harwood and Wheeler, whom many fans have called the top tag team of the year.

Speaking on his Grilling JR Podcast, Jim Ross praised the match as much as he could:

“The match of the night, or the afternoon as it were, was the Dog Collar tag match, It was just absolute unbelievable … It was a piece of art. It was crafted amazingly. They gritted their teeth. They did what they had to do. Tons of blood, whether or not you like that, that was what was there. So, I thought these guys did a terrific job telling a story.”

Jim Ross went on to praise the two teams for putting their 2022 match trilogy:

“Those are the kind of matches you look at in amazement Their effort, their heart, their soul, it was very, very important to those guys to score the match of the night and they did that quite frankly.”

FTR’s next big match is scheduled for January 4th, 2023, at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17. On that show, they will defend their IWGP Tag Team Championships against the winners of the 2022 IWGP World Tag League, which is still ongoing as of this writing. The challengers will be either Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASI) or Aussie Open Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis).
