Jay White Reportedly Still Deciding On Wrestling Future

Jay White

The professional wrestling future of Jay White remains a mystery as the talented free agent continues to talk to two major wrestling promotions.

Former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Jay White has officially been a wrestling free agent for about three weeks since his New Japan Pro Wrestling contract expired on February 28th.

To start 2023, Jay White lost the IWGP World Heavyweight Title to Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in January.

White also lost a Loser Leaves Japan match to Hikuleo and lost a Loser Leaves NJPW match to Eddie Kingston as well.

Since he lost the Loser Leaves Japan and NJPW matches, it was believed that WWE was the likely frontrunner to land White because AEW has an association with NJPW (they are running Forbidden Door 2 in June), so if he was going to AEW, it makes an NJPW banishment feel unnecessary.

The latest update on Jay White from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer is that he has been talking to WWE and AEW about his wrestling future.

“Regarding Jay White, we are told that White has been talking to WWE but has not signed. He is also talking to AEW. From someone familiar with the situation they described it as 50/50 which side he would go with.”

“Doing the loser leaves town is weird because if he does sign with AEW, he could still work for New Japan, but I guess he wanted to leave New Japan either way rather than come in for major dates so did the total exit angle before while still talking with both sides.”

Jay White has wrestled in AEW before due to their affiliation with NJPW. White successfully defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Forbidden Door 2022 in a match that included Adam Cole, Kazuchika Okada and “Hangman” Adam Page. White covered Cole to retain his title in that match.
