WWE SmackDown was off to a chaotic start tonight in Kansas City, Missouri. The show aired live from the T-Mobile Center and featured two massive championship matches to get the fans excited.

The night began with the highly anticipated rematch between Cody Rhodes and Gunther for the former’s Undisputed WWE Championship after their match at Clash in Italy ended in controversy.

Tonight’s wasn’t any less as Sami Zayn was announced as the Special Guest Referee on last week’s episode. There was a lot of animosity between all three men present in the ring, and it showed up in the match.

Sami Zayn gets his WWE World Championship match.

Zayn was taken out by Gunther during the match and he retaliated by ending the match with a fast count, allowing Cody to retain his belt. This angered the General Manager, Nick Aldis, and both Rhodes and Gunther.

The match was then restarted to determine the actual winner, but Zayn attacked the Ring General with a Helluva Kick, and the referee threw the match out. He took both Cody and the referee out after the match was called off.

Following the match, Gunther and Cody both wanted a rematch for the title, and Rhodes told Aldis there’s only one way he can settle this feud. Aldis agreed with his WWE Champion and announced a Triple Threat Match for the title at Night of Champions next weekend.
