Gunther is one of the top heels in WWE, and after retiring some of the beloved WWE legends like John Cena and AJ Styles, the fans’ hatred for him has increased tenfold. However, this is something that does not bother him; instead, he feeds on the fans’ hatred and thrives on it.

Being a heel in the wrestling business is not an easy job, but the 38-year-old heel star does it so perfectly that he makes it look like a cakewalk.

The Ring General recently had an interview with Enry Lazza, where he opened up about how the wrestling fandom’s hatred affects him. He stated that while others in the locker room struggle to get negative reactions, he enjoys them.

Gunther added that ever since retiring John Cena, he has made the fans hate him even more. He said:

“It is and I feel like it’s a struggle that a lot of my colleagues sometimes have, when they struggle to get negative reactions, because it cannot feel nice, but I enjoy it, I have to say. I like to be the one that creates chaos and stirs the pot and that worked out really well with John (Cena).”

The WWE Universe saw Gunther defeat Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42. Following the event, the Austrian wrestler set his sights on a new target, and it was the Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes.

Gunther attacked The American Nightmare two weeks ago on Friday Night SmackDown after Rhodes’ match with Ricky Starks.

Last week, fans learned that Gunther called in his favor with Paul Heyman to secure a title match against Cody Rhodes at Clash in Italy, which will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy. The two men are yet to officially sign a contract for the match.
