Gunther is set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash in Italy in Turin on May 30.

The American Nightmare always promotes his major bouts ahead of premium live events. As the face of the company and the current titleholder, Cody Rhodes often appears on mainstream media platforms to hype his upcoming matches.

His rival recently took a shot at him, saying that he doesn’t need to do the same for recognition.

Gunther Says Cody Rhodes Is Obsessed With Fame And Attention

Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, Gunther stated that Cody Rhodes craves attention and validation from the spotlight, while he personally doesn’t need fame or media appearances to feel important.

He added that Cody enjoys constantly promoting himself, doing interviews, media tours, and staying in the public eye. The Ring General, on the other hand, sees himself as someone who only cares about performing inside the ring.

“I think Cody is right – I’m sitting here because I’m wrestling Cody for the WWE Championship. The difference is, if I wasn’t sitting here with you, I would do something else with my life, and I would be very happy and confident with that.

The issue is, if Cody is not on the (media) rounds that are so much fun, then he’s sitting at home worrying, crying a little bit that he doesn’t get the attention that he wants, that he needs. He seems to run on that.

I’m glad that he was in New York spending the whole day with you guys. I spent the day with my wife here in lovely Cambridge, England, and drank coffee in the city center, and was not thinking for a second, ‘I need to be on some interview to get seen, to get recognition.’

My recognition is gonna come when the bell rings in Italy, and that’s what I focus on. That’s what I work for. And that’s why I’m gonna be the new Undisputed WWE Champion.”
