Former WWE Tag Team In Town Ahead Of NXT

WWE Logo over Roster

A tag team that hasn’t been seen in WWE since 2020 could make their return at tonight’s edition of NXT.

It was recently reported by Fightful Select that Akam and Rezar, the Authors of Pain, had been re-signed by the company sometime in 2022. Seemingly, the pair’s former onscreen manager Paul Ellering had been heavily involved in the negotiations.

The duo first appeared in NXT in 2016 and quickly became a dominant force in the developmental brand’s tag team division, winning the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic within a year of their debut and going on to capture the NXT Tag Team Championships soon after.

In 2018, they were called up to the main roster as part of WWE Raw. There, they ended their partnership with Ellering by attacking the veteran. Despite abandoning their mentor, Akam and Rezar went on to capture the Raw Tag Team Championships, although their reign only lasted 35 days before they lost the gold to Chad Gable and Bobby Roode.

In March 2020, they teamed up with Seth Rollins, but it was a short-lived alliance as Rezar suffered an injury that led to both men being taken off television. In September that year, they were released from their contracts.

The Authors of Pain could be on their way back to NXT TV

It looks like Akem and Rezar will finally make their return to our screens on the September 5th edition of NXT. PWInsider Elite has reported that the two are in Orlando, site of the WWE Performance centre where tonight’s NXT will be held.

While their presence isn’t a guarantee they will appear on the show, the report notes that it is “a likely spoiler.”
