Finn Balor Says There’s “Unfinished Business” With Roman Reigns

Finn Balor is currently a member of The Judgment Day group on WWE Raw, but the former Universal Champion hasn’t forgotten about his past with Roman Reigns.

In July 2021, Balor returned to WWE’s main roster after having his second dominant run in NXT. Shortly after his return, Balor became the top contender for the Universal Championship held by Roman Reigns.

The Universal Title was on the line on the September 3, 2021 edition of Smackdown with Reigns beating Balor in a competitive matchup. Reigns used underhanded tactics by hitting a low blow while kicking out of a pin attempt. After the match was over, there was a tease from Balor that he was going to bring the “Demon” persona back.

That led to Balor facing Reigns again three weeks later at Extreme Rules on September 26 with Balor wearing the “Demon” look that he uses for big matches. That match also ended in controversial fashion when Balor was standing on the top rope looking for his Coup de Grace when the top rope mysteriously broke. Balor fell to the mat and Reigns hit a Spear to retain the Universal Title.

Following Balor’s loss, there was no follow up storyline about what happened to the top rope or who may have cut it. They were on to Roman’s next challenge against Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel. While WWE chose to forget, Balor hasn’t forgotten about it. While speaking on WWE’s El Brunch show, Balor commented on the controversial ending:

“I think me and Roman Reigns have a lot of unfinished business. There was a little bit of a questionable finish to our last match at Extreme Rules when the top rope mysterious broke in our championship match. So, I feel like there’s definitely a rematch due with myself and Roman. So, hopefully, we’ll get to that, soon after Clash at the Castle.”

Balor could get another shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns after Clash at the Castle, but that’s only if Reigns is successful in his title defense against the UK’s own Drew McIntyre in a match taking place in Cardiff, Wales in front of 70,000 people. It may be Roman’s toughest test during his two-year run as the Universal Champion (Reigns added the WWE Title at WrestleMania 38).

As for Balor’s role at Clash at the Castle, he is currently feuding with Rey & Dominik Mysterio on Raw along with Edge, who was the founder of The Judgment Day group. It’s possible that Balor could be part of a singles or tag team match at that event. We will have to keep watching WWE programming to find out.
