A former WWE star hung up their boots at only 37 years of age.

In 2007, Shelly Martinez was released from the Stamford-based promotion after a two-year run. She later joined TNA for a brief stint before moving to the independent circuit.

A decade after her WWE departure, the former Ariel retired from in-ring competition. Her final match took place in November 2017 against Jayde at a DWA event.

Why Did The Ex-WWE Diva Retire?

On an episode of her Too Much Information (TMI) podcast, Shelly Martinez opened up about her decision to end her wrestling career when she was only 37.

The former Diva disclosed that she did not feel it was worth continuing to wrestle, as she was not earning WWE-level money and had no desire to return to the promotion.

I retired from professional wrestling and said I would only come out of retirement for Lucha Underground and WOW. So, I put a lot of thought cuz wrestling was everything, man. My everything. So, I wasn’t on a whim. I was gonna just retire from wrestling cuz I also didn’t wanna, no offense, be somebody that retires a whole bunch of times, and like it’s like almost a joke.

Everyone has their own journey and own reasons. Not knocking it. I just didn’t wanna be that. I didn’t strive for that. I thought to myself, when I wanna retire, I’m gonna retire. And one of the things I asked myself is this worth it anymore. And I said, ‘No. the only way it’s worth it is to get paid WWE money and I don’t wanna go work there. So, I guess I’m gonna retire. So, I did. [23:16 onwards]
