Edge Reveals The Goal He Had For The Judgment Day In WWE

Adam Copeland (Edge) leading Judgment Day

Edge has opened up about what he had in mind when The Judgment Day group was created after WrestleMania 38 in 2022.

There was a huge “dream match” at WrestleMania 38 when Edge faced the great AJ Styles for the first time. The Rated R Superstar picked up the win over Styles thanks in part to a distraction from Damian Priest, who showed up at ringside leading to Edge hitting a Spear on Styles for the win.

The next night at Raw, Edge announced his alliance with Priest. Soon after that, Rhea Ripley was added to the group. Finn Balor was also an addition to the group, but when he was, the trio of Balor, Priest and Ripley turned on Edge.

That Judgment Day attack on Edge took place in June 2022. As we head toward WrestleMania 39, it appears as though Edge is on a collision course with Balor for one more match taking place ten months after the storyline began.

During an appearance on WWE’s After The Bell podcast with Corey Graves & Kevin Patrick, Edge shared his vision for The Judgment Day.

“It’s been a year now since we first conceptualized the idea of The Judgement Day. It was over a year ago now. It really started at WrestleMania the night that Priest and I first joined together and that became the initial nucleus of what this thing was, but then it turned into something entirely different and better, honestly.”

“Where it’s at now was the goal that I had in mind. I really thought the concept of Judgment Day, the idea behind it was, here’s these really talented individuals who I truly felt weren’t getting the opportunity that they deserved, and if they got that opportunity, that they could fly with it, they could run with it, whatever analogy you want to use.”

“I had been watching them all since NXT and kind of kept tabs on them and kept my eye on them all these years. So when I was asked about starting a group and was asked who would be in it, the first names I said were Priest, Ripley, Balor. It changed and morphed and went through a lot of different permutations.”

In September 2022 at Clash at the Castle, Dominik Mysterio turned on his father Rey Mysterio and “uncle” Edge to make The Judgment Day a four-person group with Balor, Ripley and Priest.

This coming Monday on the March 13th edition of Raw, Edge and Balor will meet face-to-face likely to make their WrestleMania 39 match official.
