Drew McIntyre Offers Support To Released WWE Star

Drew McIntyre in WWE

Drew McIntyre has shared his support for Jinder Mahal after the former WWE Champion was released by the company.

‘The Modern Day Maharaja’ took to social media site X on Friday 19th April to reveal his newly acquired free agent status before subsequently changing his bio on the site to ‘Free Agent – 90 days’ in reference to the three month no-compete clause that departing WWE Superstars must typically serve before they can return to action elsewhere.

Mahal was amongst a number of names let go by WWE with budget cuts believed to be the reason cited internally. Other names departing the company include Indus Sher pair Veer and Sanga, Xyon Quinn and Xia Li.

The recently released 37 year-old has been only been used sporadically by the company in recent years although he did make a pair of notable appearances on Raw in January 2024, including an unsuccessful attempt to dethrone then-World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.

The former WWE United States Champion last appeared on WWE television as a competitor in the 2024 Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the 5th April edition of SmackDown.

Drew McIntyre Backing Released WWE Star To Bounce Back

It is the second time that the Mahal has tasted release from WWE having previously been let go in June 2014.

Another Superstar released on that fateful day was Mahal’s former 3MB team mate Drew McIntryre. The pair both made successful returns to WWE after that set back and ‘The Scottish Warrior’ took to his own X account recently to offer his support for his departed colleague:

“We showed them once. Now show them again, brother.”

Despite featuring prominently on WWE television, McIntyre’s own future with the company remains in some doubt with reports suggesting his contract is set to expire in the coming weeks with no new deal yet agreed.
