When Will Drew McIntyre Become A Free Agent?

Drew McIntyre’s WWE future remains uncertain.

After returning to action in July 2023 after a short hiatus, Drew McIntyre appeared lost and without direction, as he teamed with Matt Riddle. However, as his character evolved and he began to display more heelish tendencies, he’s been rejuvenated.

In the early part of 2024, McIntyre was at war with Seth Rollins and even won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40 — even though his reign lasted a matter of minutes. Meanwhile, his verbal battle with CM Punk seems destined to result in a huge match later in the year.

Despite this, uncertainty continues to surround his WWE future.

Drew McIntyre And WWE Haven’t Agreed Terms

Following a report that claimed Drew McIntyre’s contract had a “few months to run,” a further report has given more details.

As reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, McIntyre still hasn’t agreed terms on a new contract. In addition, his current deal expires within the next five or six weeks, something that’s only increasing the pressure on the situation.

Should terms not be agreed, McIntyre will become a free agent in late May or early June. WWE Clash at the Castle is due to take place in Glasgow, Scotland on June 15th.

One source notes that there have been talks between the two sides for several weeks, but at present, they haven’t resulted in a deal.

Johnson adds that WWE’s recent changes to its Talent Relations department were done to “instill officials – Chris Legentil and Matthew Altman – into the division who have forged past relationships with talents in order to facilitate the signing process in a much stronger fashion.”

WWE is said to be “making it a point” to sign Becky Lynch to a new contract after she revealed her deal expires in two months. Johnson cites one source which suggested Lynch’s contract has eight weeks remaining.
