WWE Announce Return Of Clash At The Castle In All-New Location

WWE Clash at the Castle Drew McIntyre

Clash at the Castle was a huge success for WWE in 2022 and now the company is hoping to repeat the trick in 2024 in a new location.

September 2022 saw WWE invade Cardiff, Wales as over 60,000 fans packed into the Principality Stadium to see a show headlined by Drew McIntyre challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. That match saw the main roster debut of Solo Sikoa who helped his Tribal Chief retain his gold.

The event proved a success for Wales as well with the Welsh Government revealing that they paid WWE almost $3 million for the event to come to Cardiff and experiencing an almost ten times return in what it provided as a boost to the Welsh economy.

Now Scotland will be hoping to reap some of that benefit as well when Clash at the Castle takes place on June 15th in the OVO Hydro in Glasgow.

WWE Clash At The Castle Heading To Scotland

WWE announced the news on its website touting the amount of Scottish talent within its ranks, not least Drew McIntyre who could head into the event as World Heavyweight Champion if he defeats Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40. The full press release from WWE also reveals that SmackDown will take place in the same venue one night before Clash at the Castle:

STAMFORD, Conn., April 2, 2024 – WWE, part of TKO Group Holdings, today announced that Glasgow will host Friday Night SmackDown on Friday, June 14, followed by Clash at the Castle: Scotland, the first-ever WWE Premium Live Event to be held in Scotland, on Saturday, June 15 at the OVO Hydro.

“We are excited to bring both Friday Night SmackDownand Clash At The Castle: Scotlandto our amazing fans in Scotland at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow this June,” said WWE President Nick Khan. “The world will see that this is one of the UK’s best venues and Scottish crowds are some of the loudest, craziest and most passionate on the planet.”

The announcement follows the record-setting Clash At the Castle which took place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, in September 2022. At the time, the event became the most-viewed and highest-rated international Premium Live Event in company history.

Scotland is home to several WWE Superstars including Drew McIntyre, Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn, Piper Niven, Nikki Cross, Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, Wolfgang and Noam Dar.

Additionally, Priority Pass ticket packages will soon be available from On Location, offering fans the chance to be ringside for every exhilarating moment including premium seating, pre-show hospitality with WWE Superstar appearances, ringside photo opportunities, exclusive merchandise and more. Starting today at 11:00 a.m. BST, fans can place a deposit to secure access ahead of the general public.

More information on ticket availability will be announced in the coming days. To learn more please stick with WWE.com.

The timing of the event is interesting as Scotland’s men’s football team will kick off the 2024 European Championships against Germany on the 14th of June in an event that is sure to have most of the country glued to the television.

Keeping the same name of the show might also surprise some as although Greater Glasgow is home to some smaller castle remains, it is not a city known for having a castle as Cardiff was. Other Scottish cities such as Edinburgh and Stirling are both better known as “castle cities.”

Murrayfield in Edinburgh could have been a good stadium option if WWE wanted to hold the event in Scotland’s capital in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle but perhaps the weather – even in June – put the company off that idea.
