Drew McIntyre Personally Frustrated By WWE Booking Decision
Drew McIntyre has revealed feeling frustrated with the creative direction of his character in WWE.
On January 9, 2026, McIntyre surprised the wrestling world by dethroning Cody Rhodes as the SmackDown Champion in a 3 Stages of Hell match.
However, his title reign lasted only 56 days, with Cody beating him again on the March 6 taping of the blue brand. Amid fan backlash, The Scottish Warrior broke his silence with a simple emoji, which resonated with his fanbase.
During a recent appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, the 40-year-old revealed feeling disappointed, but claimed understanding the bigger picture.
I don’t make those decisions. Triple H is in charge for a reason. But the fans getting disappointed on my behalf — I appreciate it. Sometimes I am equally as personally disappointed.
Drew McIntyre claimed that he expresses his opinion backstage, but at the end of the day, the business survives on storytelling and the development of characters.
I hope to see the future and have personal conversations with those in charge and say my feelings, and I’m always told, ‘Drew, here’s what we’re thinking.’ Then I’ll say, ‘Here’s what I’m thinking.’ We go in that direction, and I give my opinion, and that’s where we go.
Drew McIntyre Thankful For Fan Support
Despite performing as a heel character in WWE, Drew McIntyre has an ever-growing fan following.
While speaking about his Undisputed WWE Championship loss, he explained how it set the stage for his match against Jacob Fatu as well as Cody Rhodes’ feud with Randy Orton.
Finally, he acknowledged the support of his fans, revealing that he appreciated all who voiced their opinion in his favor.
I appreciate the fans, and if anything doesn’t work out and I’m sitting there at one point thinking, ‘Oh my God, no one cares, the story didn’t make sense,’ I’ll be the first one to point it out. But that hasn’t happened so far.
