Update On Colt Cabana’s Status In AEW After Dynamite Return

Many fans were surprised to see Colt Cabana on AEW Dynamite on November 2nd when he faced Chris Jericho for the ROH World Title.

Colt Cabana is quasi-famous as a comedy wrestler who wrestled all over the American independent scene for decades. But more people that follow wrestling news know his name, for better or for worse, for his relationship with CM Punk.

Cabana’s name was central to the All Out fallout that sent AEW into a tailspin in terms of bad publicity. The mere mention of Cabana’s name angered Punk, and the allegations that Punk used his influence to push Cabana aside, though never fully proven, were very convincing with many fans.

But now, with CM Punk likely gone for good from AEW, Cabana made his first appearance on AEW programming since March. Although he lost his match to Chris Jericho, a report from Fightful Select noted that Cabana’s appearance on Dynamite was met with positive reactions from the rest of the locker room. The report noted that “a dozen or so talent that Fightful heard back from regarding the November 2 AEW Dynamite were in support of Colt Cabana being back in the fold.”

The report went on to emphasize just how acrimonious the split between Punk and Cabana was. The situation between them is so bad that Cabana’s appearance all but confirmed that Punk is on his way out and possibly heading to WWE.

It was mentioned by Fightful that before Cabana’s absence, he was incredibly happy and had been helping produce matches for months before he left. Fightful also reported that the people they spoke to reacted to the Wrestlevotes report that Cabana’s return “has not gone unnoticed by WWE” is perceived as being a huge signal to WWE that Punk is likely officially done in WWE.

As for Punk, a WWE source said they haven’t heard any updates if WWE has any interest.

There has yet to be any update from AEW on whether Cabana’s appearance was a one-time thing or if he signed a full-time contract with the promotion.
