Cody Rhodes Reveals If He Thinks The Rock Is In His Way

Cody Rhodes is focused on his path to WrestleMania 40, but he has also commented on what The Rock’s involvement could mean.

With the 2024 edition of the Royal Rumble just days away on January 27th, Cody Rhodes is determined to win the Men’s Royal Rumble match for the second year in a row.

After Cody Rhodes won the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match, he went on to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 40 Sunday. Unfortunately for Cody, he wasn’t able to finish the story that night because of interference from The Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa and Roman’s long title reign continued.

At this year’s Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes will have to contend with the likes of CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, Shinsuke Nakamura, and 26 others. One man who may not be in the match is WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but after an appearance on Raw Day 1, The Rock dropped a hint that he may be coming for the “Head of the Table” Roman Reigns too.

When ESPN’s Marc Raimondi talked to Cody about the future, The American Nightmare made it clear that he doesn’t think The Rock is in his way.

“I don’t consider him in my way. Maybe he is, and I’m being naive to it. Maybe he maybe he wants to get in, I don’t know. But I don’t consider him in my way. Again, The Rock is one of the main reasons we’re here today. Nothing but respect. But also at the same time, I have to have the respect for myself to know where I’d like to go.”

Cody Rhodes Knows What Path He Needs To Take

In his discussion with ESPN, Cody also spoke about how there’s the Royal Rumble and another option ahead of him that could lead to the WrestleMania 40 main event.

“For me to be able to get back [to challenge for the title at WrestleMania], I’ve gotta win in one of those two settings — the Royal Rumble or the Elimination Chamber. And that’s really where my focus is at. I can’t see WrestleMania 40 until I see one of those.”

That interview with Cody Rhodes was also done to celebrate the fact that Cody is on the cover of the WWE 2K24 video game. There’s also a Deluxe Edition cover with Rhea Ripley & Bianca Belair on it.
