One of CM Punk’s top rivalries in 2024 was against Drew McIntyre. The two began feuding after Punk suffered a legitimate torn triceps following a maneuver from McIntyre.

The rivalry culminated in a brutal grudge-match trilogy. They first faced each other at SummerSlam 2024, where Seth Rollins served as the special guest referee, and Drew McIntyre picked up the win.

Their second match took place at Bash in Berlin 2024 in a Strap Match, which CM Punk won. The third and final bout was a Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood in October 2024, where CM Punk once again emerged victorious.

Both stars have since moved on from the rivalry. CM Punk is set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns, while Drew McIntyre will compete in a singles match against his current rival, Jacob Fatu, at WrestleMania 42.

Drew McIntyre Acknowledges CM Punk’s World Heavyweight Championship Reign

Ahead of the Showcase of the Immortals, Drew McIntyre sat down with Chris Van Vliet, where he was asked about his iconic rivalry with CM Punk. McIntyre insulted Punk and said he can’t stand him. But he also broke character to acknowledge that Punk’s current title run is strong. Even while criticizing him, he gave him credit.

McIntyre also stated that their rivalry set such a high standard in WWE that he is still trying to recreate something that good. He pointed out that they are very different from each other, which is exactly why their in-ring chemistry as rivals was so strong.

“A piece of crap. Can’t stand him. I watch him every week, and I see he is doing good things with the world title, good for you. That’s a good run right there. As a fighting champion, I think fighting champions are stupid, because I was one, and why would you defend it all the time? That’s just disrespectful to the title.

The opponent should earn it. So I did it before, that’s why I can say that stuff. But at the same time, he’s nowhere close to what he did with me, and it pains me to admit I’m still chasing the dragon for what I did with him. So opposites attract.”
