CM Punk’s AEW Return Date “Should Not Be Long”

CM Punk

A new report has claimed that we don’t have long to wait before CM Punk returns to action in AEW.

It was at Double Or Nothing 2022 when CM Punk hit the pinnacle in AEW, defeating ‘Hangman’ Adam Page to win the World Championship. However, both Punk and the company were dealt a stiff blow just days later when the new title holder confirmed he had been injured earlier that week and would require time off for surgery.

AEW elected not to take the belt off Punk, and instead crowned an interim World Champion at Forbidden Door when Jon Moxley defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi in the tournament final.

Dave Meltzer noted on his latest Wrestling Observer Radio that the matchup between CM Punk and Jon Moxley is likely to take place before the end of the year, with Punk’s return to AEW set to be sooner rather than later.

I think the big thing now is waiting for [CM] Punk and [Bryan] Danielson to return, and perhaps [Kenny] Omega as well, and kind of get that star power back up to what it was. Punk is the biggest star, MJF perhaps, who knows what’s going on with him. I mean, those are the biggest stars in the company, except for [Jon] Moxley and [Chris] Jericho probably, as far as singles stars go. They’re down as far as the injury thing goes, that’ll be the case and we’ll see.

Punk should not be long before he returns. Not this month, probably not August, but perhaps All Out, perhaps Full Gear. I think it would be one of those two shows where he’s back. At least you’ll have that key star power, the guy that they can put in and everything like that, and build to Punk and Moxley, obviously, I think that’s the main event they would like for All Out if, in fact, it is possible to do that match. If not, I don’t know what they’re gonna do.

In another indication that All Out would be a likely place for his return, CM Punk is currently featured in the advertising material for the event. It would also mark the one year anniversary of his return to wrestling, when he took on Darby Allin.
