CM Punk Not Planned For New Role In WWE

CM Punk won’t be making a quick return to WWE television.

After making his return to WWE at Survivor Series, fans were made to wait to see CM Punk back in the ring, with the star only wrestling at two live events before the end of 2023.

However, when Punk did step into the ring on television, it was at one of WWE’s biggest events, but things didn’t quite go to plan. Punk entered the Royal Rumble match to a huge ovation, but within minutes he’d torn his triceps, and his WrestleMania dreams were over.

Although Punk has undergone successful surgery, he’s now expected to miss much of 2024.

This led to reports that WWE could be looking to utilise CM Punk in a different role while he’s unable to wrestle. These claims came from Punk’s friend Ace Steel who said WWE was hoping to use the star on commentary.

The rumours gathered pace after it was revealed that NXT announcer Booker T would be taking some time off for medical reasons.

However, according to a new report from Fightful Select, there have been no discussions around Punk filling in. Bryan Saxton is expected to replace Booker on commentary while he’s absent, and Punk isn’t expected at the Performance Center for the next few weeks.

CM Punk Vs. Seth Rollins Was Original Plan For WrestleMania

With CM Punk out of action and The Rock seemingly getting back in the ring, WrestleMania main event plans have been changing quickly.

However, despite suggestions that The Rock vs. Roman Reigns had been planned for a number of weeks, in the days before the Royal Rumble, Rhodes was still scheduled to face the Tribal Chief.

This in turn would have seen CM Punk take on Seth Rollins. According to a report from Fightful Select, CM Punk was personally told that he’d be wrestling Rollins.
