Charlotte Flair & Liv Morgan Replaced By AEW & NWA Stars In Mildred Burke Movie

Charlotte Flair Mildred Burke

Charlotte Flair and Liv Morgan are no longer part of the upcoming movie on Mildred Burke after WWE involvement.

Back in May, it was reported that Charlotte Flair and Liv Morgan would be featuring in a film about the career, life, and marriage of wrestling legend Mildred Burke, who will be played by Emily Bett Rickards. Flair was set to play the role of June Byers, while Morgan would portray Clara Mortensen. Earlier this month, it was reported that both women had filmed a portion of the film.

However, a new report from Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reveals that Flair and Morgan are no longer attached to the film. Instead, June Byers will be portrayed by NWA Women’s Champion Kamille Brickhouse, while Mortensen will be played by AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm. Meltzer also provided details on Jim Ross’ involvement and more, writing:

“Kamille Brickhouse noted that she spent the summer filming the Mildred Burke movie ‘Queen of the Ring.’ She will be playing June Byers, who had a shoot match for the women’s world title in Atlanta with Burke in 1954 and then after winning became the dominant women’s star for the next decade. At one point Charlotte Flair was pegged for that role and had agreed to it but WWE got involved and it fell through.

Many years ago Jim Ross purchased the rights for a movie on Burke, based on the great book about the early days of women’s wrestling by Jeff Leem, who was a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter. Ross had a friend who does movies and he suggested the idea of the film and that’s the genesis of it. He will be Executive Producer.

Joe Wolfe, the son of Burke & Billy Wolfe, who together put women’s wrestling on the map as a significant attraction in the late 30s until their split up in the early 50s, was a key part of a lot of what will end up in the screenplay. Liv Morgan was at first cast as Clara Mortensen, but things changed and Toni Storm ended up in that role.”

Who Does Trinity Fatu Play In The New Mildred Burke Movie?

Continuing, Meltzer comments on the involvement of both Trinity Fatu and potentially Jim Cornette in the new film.

“The only listed top stars that are wrestlers rather than actors would be Kamille, Storm, Trinity Fatu (who plays wrestler Ethel Johnson, who along with her sister, Babs Wingo were the first African-American women wrestlers as part of Wolfe’s stable) and Jim Cornette’s name is attached to the role as NWA commissioner. I don’t know as a fact Cornette was in it, but he was in the latest listing and someone involved in the project told us that they believed he was in it.

They filmed in Louisville and Al Snow trained the actresses on basics of wrestling so they could do the wrestling scenes without being injured and it looking bad.”
