Brock Lesnar’s First Challenger Reportedly Revealed

Brock Lesnar holding up WWE Championship

Following Brock Lesnar’s WWE Championship victory at Day 1, it has been reported that his first challenger is set to be Bobby Lashley.

At WWE Day 1 on New Year’s Day, Brock Lesnar was originally scheduled to take on Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. However, hours before the event Reigns announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and so could not compete at the event. WWE reacted to the news by adding Lesnar to the WWE Championship match.

The match for Big E’s title had been advertised as a Fatal Four-Way bout with Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley challenging the champion, but the addition of Lesnar turned it into a Fatal Five-Way.

Lesnar made the most of the opportunity and captured the WWE Championship after he hit Big E with an F5 for the pinfall.

With the Royal Rumble fast approaching, attention has already turned to who could challenge Lesnar for his title at the event. On the most recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has reported that Bobby Lashley will be the one to take on ‘The Conqueror’.

“With Lesnar having won the title, the next step is Lesnar vs. Lashley. You could tell, at the end of the show, they teased that glare with Lashley and everything like that, and that was the last scene. The match was booked specifically for that direction.”

“Big E was the one that was pinned because if Big E wasn’t pinned, and obviously, you’d want to go with Lesnar and Big E. But, the decision, for whatever reason, and the reason is that the people who are making the decisions felt that there was a more marketable match, went with Lesnar and Lashley.”

“During the match, if you remember, Lesnar F5ed everyone but never F5ed Lashley, and they set up a couple of spots, which was the Lashley spear through the barricade. There was the Lashley spear in the ring, although Lesnar did kick out of that spear. Then there was the Hurt Lock, which Lesnar was trapped in, with the idea that Lashley proved he could get him in there and probably beat him, but Big E made the save there.”

“They booked spots all to be dominant; all the spots with Lashley and Lesnar were booked for Lashley to look good while Lesnar pulverized everybody else and destroyed everybody else. So that’s the story of where they are going with this.”

Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley is something of a dream match for fans, not only because of the thought of the two powerhouses going at it, but also with the element of both men’s experience of MMA.

Lashley has spoken on his desire to compete against Lesnar before, most recently during an appearance on Broken Skull Sessions with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

“Brock [Lesnar]. Everybody, since the day that I stepped into wrestling, people have been comparing us and wanting us to wrestle. So I think that’s something for the fans.”
