Huge Stipulation Added To Chris Jericho Vs. Ciampa’s AEW Redemption Match
Chris Jericho’s match against Tommaso Ciampa at AEW Redemption is a highly anticipated one.
The rivalry between the industry veterans began on the May 27 edition of Dynamite, where Jericho battled Ricochet. The months-long feud ended in Y2J’s victory.
While he celebrated, Ciampa blindsided him with a heavy blow to the back of his head, sending Jericho crashing down to the mat.
After choking Jericho with his shirt, Ciampa hit him with a running knee. A couple of days later, the ‘Psycho Killer’ revealed his list of 1,004 reasons as to why he hated the Canadian superstar, which was a callback to a segment during Jericho’s WCW feud with Dean Malenko.
Since then, the two wrestlers have frequently brawled, either in the ring or backstage while delivering intense promos. It set up a singles match between them at AEW Beach Break, which Ciampa won by using underhanded tactics.
Last week, Chris Jericho cut a promo while standing in a dimly-lit space, claiming that Ciampa battered him at Beach Break, but he liked it. He then proposed another match between them at Redemption, revealing that he would compete under his “Painmaker” persona.
Ciampa did not appear rattled by it, instead challenging any wrestler to step up during the subsequent episode of Collision and face him in his hometown of Boston.
Tommaso Ciampa Proposes Stipulation To AEW Redemption Match Versus Chris Jericho
On the July 18 edition of Collision in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, Tommaso Ciampa’s challenge was answered by Myron Reed of The Rascalz.
While Reed started aggressively, Ciampa stunted his offense by gouging his eye. Ciampa continued to attack Reed and brought him down before seeking applause from the local crowd, who loved what they saw.
Reed briefly retaliated with a dropkick to send his opponent to the outside. Ciampa, however, got back in the ring and struck Reed with a bicycle knee. He soon went for his finisher, but Reed countered it.
Ciampa maintained offense for the majority of the bout and hit Reed’s back with Project Ciampa in the final minutes before striking him with his knee for the win.
Tommaso Ciampa thought of it as the best time to send a message to Chris Jericho, as he climbed out of the ring and approached Paul Wight, who was on commentary.
He grabbed the microphone and approached the commentary desk, sharing a threatening glance towards Tony Schiavone. Wight got up from his chair, only for Ciampa to climb on it to come eye-to-eye with Wight.
Ciampa then proceeded to tell Wight that he knew they were good friends. He told Wight to give Chris Jericho a message that he was better than him and he was not afraid of “The Painmaker.”
Ciampa also proposed for their bout at AEW Redemption to be a No Holds Barred match, which Jericho later accepted.
