AEW Double or Nothing featured one of the most emotional and chaotic tag team matches of the night as Adam Copeland and Christian Cage faced off against FTR for the AEW Tag Team Championships.

Cope and Cage agreed to put their entire tag team partnership on the line at the pay-per-view, meaning if they lost, they would be forced to permanently retire as a team.

The high-stakes “I Quit” match at AEW Double or Nothing delivered pure chaos. The match started with heavy tension as both teams traded fast-paced offense early. FTR relied on their usual strategy of cutting the ring in half and isolating Cage from his partner. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler repeatedly targeted Cage’s ribs, slowing the pace down and forcing Copeland to watch from the corner.

Once The Rated-R Superstar finally got the hot tag, the crowd erupted. The WWE Hall of Famer changed the pace immediately with clotheslines, corner attacks, and a spear that nearly ended the match. FTR answered back with several close near-falls, including a perfectly timed Shatter Machine that almost retained the titles for them.

WWE Hall of Famer’s return played an important role in the finish of the match at AEW Double or Nothing

The tension escalated when Stokely Hathaway jumped into the fray to interfere on behalf of FTR. Just as the numbers game began to overwhelm the challengers, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix made a shocking return to even the odds. She appeared at ringside after outside interference threatened to shift the match in FTR’s favor. Her arrival distracted the champions long enough for Cage and Copeland to regain control.

However, the ruthless champions quickly cut her down. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler set up a table, intending to drive Phoenix straight through it. However, the plan backfired completely when Wheeler accidentally executed a spear on Hathaway, sending his own ally crashing.

Capitalizing on the chaos, Cope and Christian seized control of the contest and isolated Dax Harwood, applying a devastating double submission maneuver. The intensity of the hold left FTR with no path to escape, and Harwood was finally forced to say “I Quit,” officially ending FTR’s reign as champions.

It will be interesting to see what’s next for Cope and Cage as AEW World Tag Team Champions.
