Bobby Lashley Set For First Singles Match In Five Months On WWE SmackDown
Bobby Lashley is set to compete on WWE SmackDown for his first televised match in five months.
Tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown takes place at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis. It’s the night before WWE Fastlane emanates from Indianapolis on Saturday night.
There were two big matches announced for the show on Thursday, which is when WWE likely finalizes the card for what will air tonight. One of those matches will see two former WWE Champions collide as Bobby Lashley faces the United States Champion Rey Mysterio in a non-title match.
What’s interesting about the match is that Lashley hasn’t competed in a match on SmackDown or any WWE television show since May 12th when he wrestled twice. Lashley won a triple threat match and then he lost a singles match to AJ Styles for the right to compete for the new World Heavyweight Title.
Since then, Lashley has been appearing in suits while encouraging The Street Profits duo of Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins to be more aggressive. They’ve had their ups and downs over the past few weeks, but the trio appears to be on the same page now.
At Fastlane, the trio of Bobby Lashley, Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins will team up to face the LWO’s Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar and either Cruz Del Toro or Joaquin Wilde.
In addition to Lashley facing Mysterio, WWE also announced a women’s tag team match with Asuka & Charlotte Flair teaming up against WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY and Bayley of Damage CTRL.
Previously announced for Smackdown were appearances from John Cena, The Judgment Day will appear, Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso will appear and Austin Theory will face Dragon Lee in singles action.
Bobby Lashley facing Rey Mysterio will set the stage for Fastlane from Indianapolis
The Bobby Lashley-Rey Mysterio match will see one of the former WWE Champions get the advantage going into Fastlane.
There are currently five matches announced for WWE Fastlane. It’s possible that WWE adds one or two more matches on SmackDown tonight because typically there are six or seven matches on WWE PLE events. Here’s the card as it currently stands.
* World Heavyweight Championship – Last Man Standing Match: Seth “Freakin” Rollins (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
* John Cena & LA Knight vs. Jimmy Uso & Solo Sikoa
* WWE Women’s Championship: IYO SKY (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka
* Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships: The Judgment Day – Finn Balor & Damian Priest (c) vs. Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso
* Bobby Lashley & The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) vs. LWO – Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar & Joaquin Wilde (or Cruz Del Toro)
We will have a full review of WWE Smackdown later tonight on TJRWrestling.
