Becky Lynch Reveals Shocking Truth About Her WWE Name

Becky Lynch recently spoke about her feelings regarding her ring name.

The self-proclaimed greatest women’s wrestler of all time, Becky Lynch (and it’s not her who says it, apparently), is actually Rebecca Quinn in real life.

Lynch has made a name for herself in the WWE as one of the top performers in the women’s division, working as a believable heel. She stays in character on social media and podcasts from time to time, making her persona all the more authentic.

However, the Women’s Intercontinental Champion recently revealed that she hates her ring name. She stated that she loves her real name, Rebecca Quinn, and WWE didn’t like any of the suggestions she gave for her ring name. Eventually, they decided to keep her first name, Becky, because she wanted a part of her real name in her ring name, and added an Irish last name, Lynch.

Speaking on the Viall files, Becky did a deep dive on how her ring name came to be.

I’m a big fan of a moniker because I hate my name. I love Rebecca Quin, Rebecca Quin rocks, what a great name. Becky Lynch. Lynch. It doesn’t roll off the tongue, you know?

Unlike Colby over here, I was way more often on the chopping block, so I came up with names I thought were super cool, and then they kept saying no, and eventually they just got a combination of Becky and an Irish name, and Lynch was one of the ones they approved, and I kind of wanted to keep a bit of my own name so it’s less confusing than ‘Seth & Colby’. At least, whenever the time comes, that I’m done I can still be Rebecca, Becky.

And then Lynch, I didn’t feel like I could push back, so I was just like ‘ok, that’ll be it.

After Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins Shares A Story Of His Old Ring Name

In the same interview, Becky Lynch’s husband, WWE star Seth Rollins, reveals that he originally wanted to sell his indie wrestling name, Tyler Black, to WWE, but they wouldn’t buy it. Rollins explains that this was 15 years ago, and WWE executives at the time wanted to own every aspect of his character as their intellectual property.

When I got signed, I couldn’t use a different spelling of Colby, I couldn’t be Coby, I couldn’t do anything that was close to it, because they were so anal about ‘we need to own this character and you can’t take any of it with you’. That’s just how it was back then, this was 15 years ago.

15 years ago the people in charge were like ‘we need to own every facet of this character in perpetuity, you can’t have any of it.

“So even Tyler Black, I tried to sell them Tyler Black, because I wanted to keep it because I made a name off Tyler Black, but they wouldn’t. They would not buy it

Seth Rollins is currently out of action with a shoulder injury, but Becky Lynch will be part of the Women’s Royal Rumble match on January 31st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
