Backstage Details On “Speed Bumps” As Andrade El Idolo Nears AEW Return

Andrade El Idolo

Andrade El Idolo hasn’t competed inside an AEW ring since last September, and a new report details when fans might expect to see him back.

The star’s most recent outing inside the squared circle took place at All Out, where he competed in the Casino Ladder Match that was won by MJF. He was scheduled to compete against Preston Vance on the October 7th episode of Rampage, but was pulled from the show and sent home from the Dynamite taping on October 5th following a backstage altercation with Sammy Guevara. Guevara remained on that episode of Dynamite and picked up a win in the main event.

Andrade revealed in a November social media post that he’d undergone shoulder surgery after suffering an injury during a match back in August.

Now, according to a new report from Fightful Select, the star is on his way back to AEW. The report notes that there have been “speed bumps” along the way as he prepares to return to the ring.

According to Fightful, Andrade El Idolo was backstage at the May 10th episode of Dynamite and was originally scheduled to appear in segments similar to Miro and Thunder Rosa on the show. He reportedly didn’t want to take part in that type of segment, though Fightful was unable to confirm the reason for this. He was also backstage on May 17th and filmed a social media segment. It’s expected that he’ll be competing on the new AEW Collision program after it debuts on June 17th.

The report also notes that he had been working toward an in-ring return ahead of May 10th, but sources close to him said he wasn’t physically ready at that time. Now, he’s confirmed for a show in Mexico and there have been talks of him appearing in Puerto Rico, though Fightful hasn’t confirmed whether the latter would see him wrestle or simply make an appearance.
