AJ Lee’s Immediate WWE Future Revealed
AJ Lee last competed at WrestleMania 42, where she lost the Women’s Intercontinental Championship to Becky Lynch.
According to an update from WrestleVotes on Fightful Select, AJ is not expected to return to WWE anytime soon. However, a new report says that these plans could change.
Backstage Update on AJ Lee’s WWE Status Following WrestleMania 42
Fightful Select recently reported that although WWE currently has no immediate plans to bring back AJ, the door is not closed to future appearances or involvement.
Some rumors suggested that WWE originally wanted AJ Lee back as a full-time wrestler, but she later changed her mind. The report confirms that this was never the plan, and that her return was always intended to be limited rather than a full-time run.
Rumors were going around that AJ’s husband, CM Punk, was unhappy with WWE over something related to AJ. According to the report, people within WWE dismissed those rumors and did not take them seriously.
WWE had specific plans for AJ’s appearances from the beginning. She fulfilled what she was brought in to do, and her departure afterward was expected rather than a sign that plans had changed.
Individuals who were involved with AJ reported no known backstage issues, creative disagreements, or changes in direction. The report asserts that there is no evidence of any major backstage conflict involving AJ Lee, CM Punk, or WWE.
AJ Lee returned to WWE after almost a decade-long absence in September 2025 and joined her husband, CM Punk, in his feud against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. She has fought five times since her return to WWE.
Her first return match was at Wrestlepalooza 2025. Then she fought at Survivor Series 2025. Then, Elimination Chamber 2026, Raw (03/16), and finally at WrestleMania 42, before going on hiatus. There is a hope in the WWE Universe that The Geek Goddess might show up at SummerSlam this year.
